KEOLADEO
GHANA
(BHARATPUR BIRD SANCTUARY)
NATIONAL
PARK
Often
known by the name of Bharatpur, the nearby town, the sanctuary is
India's most famous wetland, situated in a natural shallow depression at
the western edge of the Gangetic plains. Bird-watching is done on
foot, bicycles or cycle-rickshaws. Winter is the season for the
migrants but in July the residents' breeding takes place and colonies of
painted storks, herons, egrets and darters are equally enticing. Not to
be missed are the resident spotted deer, sambar, blue-bulls
pythons,
rhesus macaques, otters, mongoose, fishing cats,
turtles and other
fauna.
