BEACHES

5000 miles of endless beaches provide the core of India's coastline. Foremost is Goa, a short flight from Mumbai on the western coast set against a century's old Portuguese influence.

In southern India, the Kovalam beach resort provides an excellent beach holiday. On the eastern coast is Mahabalipuram, a short drive away from Chennai and at Puri in Orissa, some excellent beach facilities have been set-up.

These beaches are never too far away from the rich cultural diversity of the country. Churches and temples form an exciting, unique backdrop. Festivals are typically Indian and the food and gaiety are peculiar to each different region. Some of these resorts now have excellent water sports facilities. From the simple pleasures of the water scooter and motor racing to more intricate sports like scuba diving and para-sailing.

The islands of Lakshadweep and Andamans provide controlled tourism where facilities are limited but nature as yet retains its original glory.
